The Sound of Music tour
This tour leads its participants through the filming locations for the musical “The Sound of Music”. Among its highlights are the “Von Trapp” family estate, the fountain, and much more to feast your eyes on. Naturally, you can also complete the tour by yourself, but it is nevertheless difficult to reach all locations on foot.
The old town of Salzburg
The heart of the city features music, bars, restaurants, and many individual shops. The dreamy architecture of the alleys provides plenty of opportunities for walks and photo shoots. And if you’ve had enough of shopping, then simply sit back and relax in one of the numerous cafés.
A particular must for music fans is Mozart’s Birthplace. This documents the life of the young Mozart and how he grew up, and also presents many of his compositions. Later in his life, he lived in a different house, which is also open to visitors and displays original instruments. A reduced-price ticket is available if you choose to visit both locations.
This castle complex offers you the best view over the city. The castle, which dates back to the 11th century, is situated on a hill and is one of the largest medieval structures that is still preserved today. The complex also has restaurants, ready to give any tired visitors a perhaps much-needed energy boost.
Mirabell Palace and Gardens
Mirabell Palace from the 17th century is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Salzburg. It lies directly by the “Salzach” river and you can even visit the inside of the building. The gardens feature matchless floral displays and are an excellent place for a leisurely stroll.
